The Nook Coffee House is a purveyor of locally sourced, lovingly-made fine coffees, teas, kombucha and bakery delights. Our proprietor is Shannon Wylie. We'd love to say hello and craft you the perfect cup of coffee.
The Nook Coffee House is a metropolitan-inspired coffee shop nestled in small town East Greenwich, Rhode Island. We like good coffee, a sense of community, and a dash of cozy on the side (the three C’s, we’ll call it). Sometimes the perfectly made cup of coffee is the highlight of the day and our job is to deliver that experience perfectly to you. We are proud to be one of the only purveyors of draft kombucha on tap in of the Ocean State.
We like knowing who and where our coffee and food comes from, and we figure we can’t be the only ones. Nothing in Rhode Island is more than 45 minutes away (except Castle Hill in July) so why should we look beyond that to get our ingredients? Come see us soon, and enjoy exceptionally fine local food and drinks from these fabulous local partners:

The Nook is your little escape from that to-do list, from the rain, from your boss; where you nearly always walk out more satisfied, more content than when you walked in. I'm excited to serve people their cup of 'happy' and give them a cozy and inviting space to enjoy it in the company of friends - and friends-to-be.

What is Kombucha?
Kombucha (kom-booch-ah) is a fascinating and mysterious drink with a long history. Known commonly as an ancient elixir, it has been revered for centuries for its life enhancing qualities.
Kombucha is a fermented beverage made simply from tea, sugar, water, and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (scoby).
During fermentation, the sugar and tea nutrients are converted into vitamins, enzymes, organic acids and probiotics. The result is a health promoting energy drink that tastes similar to aromatic sparkling cider.
Aqua ViTea Kombucha in Middlebury, Vermont was founded 7 years ago from a serendipitous brewing accident, and a modern day libational legend was born. The company was the first Kombucha company to offer Kombucha on tap, and The Nook Coffee House is proud to be among the cafés and shops serving you the freshest kombucha around!
(Aqua Vi-tea) - "the tea water of life":
A little play on the latin expression
In Aqua Vitae Veritas or
"in living water there is truth".
With seasonally rotating flavors, you can purchase your very own pint or 64oz. growler at The Nook, and recycle, reuse, and refill to your heart's content!
We are proud to work in partnership with Boston's MEM TEAS Imports, which specializes in sourcing the highest-quality teas and botanical blends worldwide.
Plucked from the Camellia Sinensis plant, green tea is lightly dried and minimally fired to prevent oxidation and retain its natural green color. The leaves are then rolled either by hand or machine into their recognizable shapes. Green tea is high in polyphenols (an antioxidant), and purportedly has many health benefits, including a reduced risk of cancer and heart disease. Green teas contain mild to moderate amounts of caffeine. Our current offerings include:
- Golden Green
- Moroccan Mint (Organic)
Herbal teas are infusions made from a combination of flowers, herbs, and dried fruits, rather than the tea plant itself. Dating back to ancient China, herbal teas have been used for medicinal purposes, but are also enjoyed today for their variety of flavors and decaffeination.
- Chamomile Flowers
- Ginger Lemon
- Rooibis Bergamot
- Pu-erh Mao-Cha
Mate is a traditional South American tea made from the dried leaves of the Yerba Mate plant. While mate is not caffeinated, it does contain mateine, a mild stimulant related to caffeine. Noted for its health benefits and smoky, earth flavors, mate is traditionally sipped through a straw from a small gourd.
- English Breakfast (Decaf available)
- Blue Flower Earl Grey
- Yerba Mate Wild Harvest
Our original version of the Indian black tea with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and ginger.
- Masala Chai
Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea with unparalleled nutritional benefits. Matcha has 137 times more antioxidants than regular brewed tea. This magical tea is an energy booster, calorie burner, and detox deluxe! The traditional Chinese and Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha.

"The Nook's subtly spiced hot chocolate has a layer of wonderful foam, dusted with cocoa powder. There's a spiciness to this hot chocolate. Is it nutmeg? Cinnamon? Nook owner Shannon Wylie isn't dishing. All she'll say is she mixes up her chocolate powder with a secret ingredient. Yes, we noticed, and appreciated."
